Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is transmitted directly to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. Fayette County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other direct message may be retained long enough to address the request and maintain the related correspondence. It is not shared outside the organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Technical information is received when a page loads, including:
- The device's assigned IP address
- Browser name and version
- Operating system and device type
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them
- A referring website, when one is available
- The date and time of each page request
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files stored on a device. They help measure traffic, identify widely used pages, and show where visits end. Analytics providers combine this activity into site-performance information. Browser controls can block cookies, though some site functions may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Fayette County Criminal History does not operate, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to records maintained by the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, Fayette Circuit Clerk, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Alabama Department of Corrections, and Alabama Sex Offender Registry. It is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not compiled into a consumer report or a criminal-history profile about another person.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Information placed in those tools is handled under the provider's privacy terms rather than this policy. Each provider determines its retention, sharing, pricing, and result practices. Those practices are outside the control of Fayette County Criminal History, so a provider's policy should be reviewed before a query is submitted.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, Alabama courts, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, other public offices, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows an external link, the destination's privacy terms govern that activity. Its terms should be read before personal information is provided.
Advertising companies may use their own systems to track activity across websites for targeted advertising. Fayette County Criminal History does not operate that cross-site tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be received by:
- A search provider that processes a query submitted through its tool
- Analytics services used to measure traffic and performance
- Advertising networks that deliver ads on these pages
- A court, law-enforcement body, or government agency acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for information under the resource's control. No online transmission or storage method can guarantee total security, however. Protective steps reduce risk but cannot promise that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If data from a minor is identified, a parent or guardian may request its deletion.
Your Data Rights
Rights differ by residence and by the law that applies to a request. Alabama's criminal-information rules are also relevant to the subject matter: Ala. Code §41-9-601 addresses false-pretense access and unauthorized communication of offender information, while Ala. Code §41-9-636 preserves constitutional privacy and due-process limits. When applicable law grants the right, a visitor may:
- Request a copy of personal data held about that visitor
- Ask that inaccurate personal data be corrected
- Seek deletion of qualifying personal data
- Opt out of a covered form of data processing
The Alabama Open Records Act right in Ala. Code §36-12-40 concerns access to government public records. It does not turn this private resource into a Fayette County agency or records custodian.
Updates to This Policy
This privacy policy may be revised as practices or legal obligations change. A revised version will appear in this location with a new effective date, and continued use will be governed by the posted version.
